If you want to check-out some .pdf documents that Adobe Reader V 7.0.7 won't open with PDFDownload enabled, try this Fifth Third Bank site:
www.53.com
Find and click on the "Checking accounts" link
On lower-left, under "It's easy to switch to Fifth Third.."
Try to download or open any of the three Forms.
I am using Firefox 1.5.0.1, PDFDownload 0.6, Adobe Reader 7.0.7.
PDFDownload is set to use Adobe Reader in a separate window, not in Firefox.
If PDFDownload is disabled, the forms open OK.
One of the links has the following property:

Hi,
you are right
Thanks for the link and the good explanation of the problem: I will investigate to find out what is wrong.

Same problem here. The on line version of my newspaper recently switched to iSEDQuickPDF for creating pdf files. I checked that out with PDF-analyzer 2.5 http://www.is-soft.de
I am using Firefox 1.5.0.3, PDFDownload 0.6, Adobe Reader 7.0.7.
The same pdf files downloaded without PDFDownload are ok and they open just fine.
The pdf versions of the news items are only available to subscribers so i can't give you a link to them. I you like to have a sample just mail me.
P.S. I'd hate it to have to disable your extension! |

I'm happy to tell you, that the new coming version (v0.7) will solve this problem. Just wait few days more.

The latest update (0.7) does successfully open or download the bank .pdf files that I mentioned in this thread.
Since starting this thread I have installed and then selected the FoxitReader as the viewer to use in PDF Download's Options/PDF Opening. I tried using the 'Use OS Default Viewer' (Acrobat), and the 'Use Plug-in' option. They all work for me.
I do seem to be getting some blank windows that I don't want, though, when I select 'Open It' from the Popup Dialog, when using the FoxitReader, OS Default or Firefox Plug-in.
After opening and then closing the .pdf document, I have a blank Firefox (V 1.5.0.3) window - sometimes BOTH of the Firefox windows that are open are blank!
Using the Firefox Plug-in option, selecting 'open in the same tab', I do get the .pdf file displayed in a tab but I also get a blank Firefox window created.
I'm still trying to get a handle on this.

P.S.
Well, after using a new profile and only the PDF Download extension, or just using Firefox V 1.5.0.3 without ANY extensions, I still get a blank Firefox window created when opening or downloading a .pdf file, so I guess it's not unreasonable that I get the blank window with PDF Download. Funny, I don't remember that happening in the past.

this happens when the link you click on the page is designed to open in a new window, like <a target="_blank" href="doc.pdf">. The old version of PDF Download handled this situation because it entered in action before the loading of the file, so before the new window was opened. The new version, instead, enter in action after Firefox recognized that the file is a PDF (this let the extension to intercept ALL the pdf files) and hence after Firefox opened the new window. If you want to avoid this situation you could install some extension that prevents links to open in a new window, like TargetKiller o similar.

Thanks.
TargetKiller did the job. I forget what extension I had used for this in the past, but it didn't work for me so I uninstalled it.
BTW - Is PDFDownload (0.7) the reason why my "Downloads" window doesn't automatically close, like it used to, after opening or downloading .pdf documents? |
